Modernizing Elevator Lighting at Fair Oaks Mall: A Case Study in Placemaking, Technology, and Execution

Loudoun Lighting modernized elevator lighting at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia, transforming a dated 1980s design into a contemporary, automated, and visually engaging experience. Working closely with the mall’s facilities team and commercial partners, we implemented color-changing, programmable lighting that supports holidays, events, and seasonal themes—all remotely accessible and future-proofed. This project highlights how thoughtful lighting design and smart controls can enhance commercial spaces, improve visitor perception, and align with broader modernization efforts. By focusing on careful planning, off-hours execution, and seamless collaboration, Loudoun Lighting delivered a subtle but meaningful upgrade that elevates the atrium environment without being flashy.
